Has anyone noticed the amazing plush red velour chesterfield sofa on this years Celebrity Big Brother? Ive tried to chase up the manufacturer and the closest I can find is the Lincoln at our friends Distinctive Chesterfields.. however it will require some customisation to accurately match the one shown (which is probably custom too). The changes you need are:
- Overstuffed arms
- Buttonless base
- Oversized seat
Its nice to see what is deemed to be a classic piece of furniture in such modern (yet quirky) surroundings and I for one love this example of a chesterfield sofa.

Padded Chesterfield Door – The Tufted Leather Door from M’s Office in James Bond

Just noticed that in the classic James Bond films, access to the head of MI6, M has a padded chesterfield door acting as a sound proofing chamber between Miss Moneypenny’s office and the main office.
This example has been created by Italian designers piacentinisrl.it and I’m sure you’ll agree it is a fine example!

In 2008 (ok I realise this isnt new news) Students Isaac Pineir, Pablo Pita, and Martin Franzenfeatured this post-modern concept at Milan Design Week. It’s an interesting juxtaposition of angles and lines with the tufted curves of a Chesterfield sofa.
Its interesting to see that theyve used the modern cushioned seat as opposed to the original buttoned base found on traditional chesterfields so as a pastiche of clasic Vs modern it misses on that account but overall I love the detail on the front of the arms

House and Leisure magazine
Bizcommunity.com are reporting that the new issue of House and Leisure magazine contains a feature titled “56 Lifestyle Trends for 2010″, one of them being the Chesterfield Sofa.
2009 has been an amazing year for Chesterfields with them being featured in almost every major movie release, advertising and interior design shows and it looks like people are finally getting to grips with integrating this classic piece of 1800’s furniture into a modern setting (because it works so damned well).

Just found this quirky little bench designed by Jellio and available for the princly sum of $950.00
Its a great example of how you can bring the traditional chesterfield sofa look and feel to a more modern piece. I love how theyve used the deep buttoning tufted (pleated) chesterfield buttoning to the upholstery… it’s just brilliant.

Winson Churchills WWII chesterfield sofa has recently been sold at auction for over £7000. Originally estimated at only £80 and in need of some extensive refurbishment, the classic 1940’s chesterfield graced his whitehall offices and has no doubt, been sat on by some prominent historical figures. As it was in such a delapedated state, the sofa was originally destined for the skip when auctioneers put it on sale as a practical joke.

DIY Reupholster a Leather Wing Chair

Ive found this really interesting guide to reupholstering leather wing chairs which also serves as an insight into the construction and care for leather furniture.
Take care tho’ its not for the faint hearted. However if you want to try it your self and save some cash (handy in todays economic climate) then the instructions are pretty comprehensive.

Contrmporary Tub Chair
This beautiful update on a classic tub chair simply looks amazing. I love the wood effect and the way this detail crosses.
The official Blurb is:
The hand which held you in its palm let you relax and drowse you with soft touch and mild swing. Endless flexible frame let you float in the air.
Combination of modern technology and functionality with a beauty of natural materials has found its place. Frame is made of straight grain veneers glued together. There are various grain directions in each layer for best strength and flexibility. Endless frame has no fix connection in the cross, only plastic sliders in between.
Seat is divided into 3 cushions covered in white leather, for better comfort and support of the body.
All the work on this project was done in Rhino and V-ray, from simple sketch models, to final renderings. Model
for FEM analysis of the frame was made in Rhino too, exported through IGES.
…which all sounds like designery voodoo to me. This being said, this concept is sure to be a winner

It seems that Patchwork Chesterfields are all the rage this year. Earlier I posted a link to a great example on Flickr which was preceeded with a flood of requests to our friends at Distinctive Chesterfields for similar patchwork sofas, now another example has surfacd, this time made in what looks like velour… it looks very nice!

Designer David Graas has designed a set of cardboard furniture including a table and low chair that I think would be amazing for anyone going to one of the summer festevals.
I’m thinking "Can we create cardboard Chesterfield Sofas?" as i’ll bet they’d be a smash hit.

Found on Ebay, this 1970’s sofa miraculously turns into a pool table!
The description reads:
You have never seen the like – a truly unique sofa that converts into a 6ft pool table!
Produced as a collaboration between Pierce upholsterers of Accrington and Riley, the famous pool and snooker table manufacturers, this is an exceedingly rare piece, and if not a prototype, then it was produced in a very limited quantity.

I think that this year I will make the effort to get back into Big Brother as theres a severe lack of chat about anything remotely cultural around the office water cooler (yes I know that the words cultural and Big Brother in the same sentence are a bit of a stretch) however one thing I have noticed is the new Diary Room chair.
Although not a Chesterfield sofa, the new baroque style Diary Room Chair is certainly eye catching with ultra modern 80’s style fabrics placed over a traditional style frame.
